Bringing eye care within reach, since 5 years

Ghaswala Vision Foundation is a Mumbai-based charitable trust helping people access eye care they may otherwise go without. Working with doctors, hospitals and community organisations, we support eligible patients through diagnosis, treatment and essential care.

Who we are

A foundation built around one simple belief: care should reach the people who need it.

4,091 records of care. 3,443 people.

Ghaswala Vision Foundation is a Mumbai-based public charitable trust working to improve access to eye care for people who may not otherwise be able to afford it.

Reversible blindness refers to vision loss that can potentially be treated or improved with the right diagnosis, treatment and timely care. Yet for many people, the challenge isn’t whether treatment exists, but whether they can reach and afford it. GVF helps close that gap by supporting eligible patients through diagnosis, treatment and essential care.

It started with one woman who had already given everything she could.

A diagnosis is only the beginning. For someone who cannot afford care, the cost of tests, treatment, surgery or essential medicines can be enough to put necessary care out of reach.

GVF exists to help close that gap — supporting eligible patients through the care they need, while working with a wider network to make that care possible.

International Recognition for a New Model

GVF’s Alternate Site Restoration Model, developed and tested through its work on the ground, received international recognition at a conference in Dubai.

From one patient’s story to a way of making care more reachable.

Today, GVF works through an Alternate Site Restoration Model — bringing the intervention closer to the patient instead of expecting the patient to travel further for care.

Working with local eye-care centres and a wider network of partners, GVF supports eligible patients through diagnosis, treatment and essential care.

The workshop describes this model as specifically taking the intervention to the patient and connects it to how people move across Mumbai and its surrounding areas.

Care where it’s needed

Support the full need

Diagnosis, tests, treatment, surgery and post-operative medicines can all form part of the support.

Work through a network

GVF works alongside doctors, hospitals, NGOs and other organisations to make care possible.

A different kind of need

In Motihari, GVF has identified a backlog of around 200–250 children needing care for paediatric cataract.

Roughly 40% more than the paediatric cataract cases identified in Mumbai
