Getting the right care starts with getting the right support.

GVF helps eligible patients navigate the journey from referral and diagnosis to treatment and essential care.

  1. 01 / Referral

Doctors account for 48.5% of recorded referrals, roughly 1.5 times the share from NGOs.

Patients are referred to GVF through doctors, NGOs and other networks that identify people who may need support. GVF works through this network rather than operating as a standalone clinical service. A referral is the first step in understanding who needs help and where that care can happen.

    48.5% Doctors · 32% NGOs · 14% Individuals · 5.5% Hospitals

  2. 02 / Eligibility

Eligibility is assessed individually, based on circumstances and access to necessary care.

GVF looks at each patient’s circumstances to determine whether financial support is needed. There isn’t a single definition of who qualifies. The assessment considers the person’s situation and their ability to access the care they need.

22% of Mumbai FY25–26 expenditure was on tests.

  3. 03 / Diagnosis

22% towards tests. 17% towards cataract surgery.

Patients receive the tests and clinical assessment needed to understand their condition and determine the appropriate course of treatment. For many patients, diagnosis is not simply the step before treatment. It can be one of the biggest barriers to reaching the right treatment in the first place.

22% of Mumbai FY25–26 expenditure was on tests.

  4. 04 / Treatment

Cataracts accounts for 68.1%, compared with 31.9% across the remaining categories.

Once the condition is understood, GVF supports the appropriate treatment or surgery based on the patient’s clinical needs. The support required can vary significantly. Cataract, retinal conditions, glaucoma, corneal conditions and paediatric eye conditions can each require very different forms of care.

  5. 05 / Essential Care

4,091 care records for 3,443 people.

GVF’s support can include essential medicines and other necessary care as part of the patient’s treatment journey. Because getting a procedure is only one part of being able to access care. GVF works through this network rather than operating as a standalone clinical service. A referral is the first step in understanding who needs help and where that care can happen.

    • 4,091 records of care
    • 3,443 unique patients
    • That’s about 1.19 records per unique patient.

Support that follows the patient, step by step.

Every patient arrives with different circumstances. GVF assesses each case individually and supports the care needed to address their eye condition.

What if the care could come closer?

GVF’s Alternate Site Restoration Model works through a network of hospitals and care providers, allowing patients to receive appropriate treatment closer to where they live. Instead of asking patients to travel across a city or region for care, GVF connects them with suitable centres within their reach.

Closer care

Local intervention centres reduce the need for patients to travel further for treatment.

Connected care

Doctors, hospitals, NGOs and other organisations form the network behind each referral.

Patient-first

The model is designed around the patient’s location and circumstances.
